The number of searches in the U.S. across 60 search engines grew 55% to 5.1 billion, compared to 3.3 billion in 2004, according to a study by Nielson/NetRatings.
Ken Cassar, senior director of analytics at Nielson/NetRatings, said: “The double-digit increase in online search activity marks a significant milestone in the evolution of Internet consumer behavior.” [click here]
The number of people connecting to the Internet increased 3% to 207 million in the U.S.
Google saw the highest growth in Searches in the U.S with 75%. Google saw 2.47 million searches in 2005 compared to 1.41 million in 2004.
Yahoo Search was second in the list with 53% growth. Yahoo saw 1.08 million searches in 2005 compared to 0.71 million in 2004. MSN Search saw a 20% growth with 0.55 million searches in 2005 compared to 0.46 million in 2004.
Google also saw the highest increase in percentage points in search share rankings in the U.S. Google saw an increase of 5.7 with 48.8% in 2005 compared to 43.1% in 2004.
Yahoo Search saw a decline of 0.3 in percentage points with 21.4% in 2005 compared to 21.7% in 2004. MSN Search saw a decline of 3.1 with 10.9% in 2005 compared to 14% in 2004.
