Microsoft has acquired Media Streams, a Zurich based VOIP company. The acquisition will enable phone calls to be used along with email, web conferencing and MSN messenger.


Microsoft has acquired a Zurich based VOIP company, Media-streams.com AG. The acquisition will enable Microsoft to offer better VOIP facilities as a part of its Office applications and servers.

Anoop Gupta, corporate vice president of the Real-Time Collaboration Group at Microsoft, said, “Integrating voice communications with the rich collaboration capabilities of the Microsoft Office System will enable exciting new collaboration scenarios that will improve individual and team collaboration”. Microsoft’s Office Live Server can be used for hosting VOIP calls within companies.
