Om Malik says Google has hired Vinton Cerf to build network infrastructure and standards for the next generation of Internet applications, GoogleNet, a free Wi-Fi access to everyone in America.
According to Om Malik, Vinton Cerf known as the ‘Father of the Internet’ is the best brain to “help Google build network infrastructure, architectures, systems, and standards for the next generation of Internet applications, aka, Google Net”.
He provides “a sample of the high-bandwidth applications in need of the GoogleNet”.
The list includes beta versions and rumoured and speculated ideas.
Print: Lets readers peruse and search the entire contents of public-domain books on the Web.
Earth: Uses satellite photos to explore landmarks and present geographic information at street-level views.
Video Search: Searches archived television content ranging from sports to documentaries to news shows.
Music: Might troll podcasts and other audio files so they’d show up in search results.
TV: Could let users share personal videos with friends and watch on-demand television programming.
Talk: Would use VOIP technology to dial phone numbers that appear in local search results.
