An independent analyst compares Microsoft, Yahoo and Google and concludes by saying. “And from Google, look for loads of experimentation and innovation in a wide range of areas seeking that next major profitable opportunity beyond the search engine.”

Michael Robertson analyzes in detail the strengths and weaknesses of Microsoft, Yahoo and Google and points out that “How each is dealing with the competitive threat says a lot about their individual company culture, management and DNA”.

He expects Microsoft to utilize tactics they’ve used in the past with great success, Yahoo to have an edge toward multimedia content by keeping their ears to the ground and Google to innovate and sweep talents from Microsoft.

He says, “What Google has done is open a local office right in Microsoft’s backyard of Kirkland, Washington, to recruit talent. To date, they have convinced more than 100 employees to leave Microsoft and jump to Google, and virtually none have migrated in the other direction.”

He does not predict who will ultimately prevail in the battle for the net. But he says that we can expect
“some nasty-but-effective tactics from Microsoft”,
“Yahoo! to continue to forge media relations and to build some exclusive products and services to offer their subscribers” and
Google “to look for loads of experimentation and innovation in a wide range of areas seeking that next major profitable opportunity beyond the search engine”.

Michael Robertson has spearheaded a cache of diverse, high-profile companies ranging from digital music to operating systems to VoIP to entertainment.
