An SEO migration is a process of transferring search engine ranking, authority, and indexing signals to reflect a major change in your website or website URL structure.

Koozai founder Ben Norman has published an ‘SEO Migration Checklist’ that helps you save traffic too.

He says, “There are several stages of migrations, and SEO should be a consideration throughout. It’s often the case that SEO considerations will only be made from stage 2 onwards, but you should endeavour to be involved as soon as possible.

At this stage the ideas of migrating will be up in the air, and you might not get any further. It’s important to be involved from day one though, as SEO-wise it might be more beneficial to rebrand, simply change domains or redesign existing assets.

  • Stakeholder Discussions – Involving everyone from the start is the best strategy to raise concerns and find potential issues.
  • Benchmarking – Through Google Analytics and Google Search Console (and any other tracking), make sure you know how the existing site performs in terms of traffic as well as page speed.”
