Mind Games: Mental Tools for Surviving Success

Dear Business-Builder,

Yes ““ I did mean to say “surviving” success.

You see, in my experience there really is no “downtime” as a freelance copywriter. You’re either writing copy, reading about how to write better copy or thinking about writing copy.

It doesn’t matter if you’re watching television, taking a casual stroll through the mall ““ even spending quality time with family and friends ““ the marketing mind never sleeps.

There is no 40-hour-per-week schedule. No evenings and weekends off. And near as I can tell ““ although your copy may get better with experience ““ it sure as heck doesn’t get much easier to write. At least not in the sense that you some day wake up with zero doubt in your mind about your ability to blow the socks off your client with your next brilliant draft.

I know 10-, 20-, even 30-year veteran copywriter’s who still get knots in their stomach every time they sit down to begin a new promotion!

So what’s my point?

Frankly, if you don’t find some way to deal with the constant stress ““ mentally, emotionally, psychologically ““ that just seems to come with the territory, you’re going to be looking at a very short career.

That’s why I’ve been experimenting with different ways to revitalize and renew my mind in recent months. One of those ways is with meditation, which brings me to this weeks’ Swipe of the Week from the Centerpointe Research Institute.

Besides being a great promotion to study, it just happens to be the program I chose to help me with my daily meditation. So you could say I’m a little biased now that I’ve begun to experience the results myself.

Just take a look at some of the benefits they list …

Stimulate the creation of new neural pathways between the right and left hemispheres of your brain, balancing your brain and leading you to a high-performance state scientists call “whole brain functioning” …

Dramatically improve your learning ability, memory, intuition, creativity, and your ability to focus, concentrate and think more clearly …

Significantly lower your stress levels and lower your levels of harmful brain chemicals related to stress …

Create remarkable improvements in your mental and emotional health ““ even in areas that have stubbornly resisted change with other approaches …

Dramatically increase your production of vital (and very pleasurable) brain chemicals related to your longevity, wellbeing, and quality of life …

End anxiety, fear, anger, depression, sadness, self-sabotage, substance abuse, and overeating …

Be happier, more peaceful, more compassionate, more at ease.

Who wouldn’t benefit from results like that?

Download this week’s swipe now and take a look for yourself. Then, tell us your thoughts on the subject.

Do you still get knots when you sit down to work on a new project? Do you cross your fingers or throw salt over your shoulder when you press “send” on your latest draft? How do you cope personally?

Yours for greater profits,

Paul Maxey
