Weekend Success Bulletin

When you’re a business owner and you’re trying to build a successful company, it’s important you use more than your gut to make the important decisions required.

Many people act on their gut instinct when it comes to making big decisions. Depending on the decision, sometimes it can work out okay. After all, if it is something that is more based on feeling — like whether or not you trust somebody — then your gut instinct may be a good initial decision-maker, but not always.

Most times, however, you’re going to want to use your brain and the tangible facts that are available to you. This helps you to make a rational decision rather than one that is simply based
on feelings. In fact, sometimes the things that feel wrong are in fact right, if you use rational thought to think about it.

Here’s an example of what I’m talking about. A good friend of mine runs a business with two partners. Each acts as a good reference when it comes to making important decisions about
the direction of their company. One day, we were sitting around talking about the best way to break into a new market. My friend was instantly put off by the idea. He didn’t know much about breaking into this particular market and wasn’t comfortable with it. He was relying on his gut and didn’t know the facts.

Thankfully for him, he had two partners who were more inclined to do research than act on an instinct, and they were able to come up with solid evidence that showed why their idea
was a good one. Two years later, the three of them have never looked back.

The difference is that, when you use your gut, you’re basing your decisions on feeling. Most of the time, feeling isn’t relevant to your business. People may tell you that what you’re
doing will be unsuccessful, but once you come up with a way to make it work by thinking about it, almost anything is possible. It’s important to dig a little deeper by using your brain
to look at things analytically and in different lights. Doing so can show you something you may have never even considered was possible!

Don’t be limited by your gut. Instead, use your expansive intellect to make the best decisions for your business!
