Using Google AdSense to its true potential

The Google AdSense program works so well because it allows ordinary web site owners to share in a bit of the Google profit, while allowing Google to benefit from the traffic generated by millions of different web sites. It is a win-win situation for all involved, but many AdSense participants are stuck earning small amounts of money month after month. Taking Google AdSense to the next level, and using the program to its full advantage, takes time, knowledge and planning.

One of the things web publishers like best about Google is that it is easy to use and easy to sign up for. There is no complicated program to install, just a small HTML script that anyone can ad to their web site. Google AdSense also helps to eliminate the need to constantly scout for and check out potential affiliates, providing more time for working on web sites and other publishing duties.

What many people do not realize when they sign up for AdSense is just how much control they really do have over how the ads are displayed. While Google choose which ads to serve based on such factors as the content of your web site, once those ads have been served the web publisher has a great deal of control over the look and feel of the ads. Web site owners are free to change the color, change the font, change the size, add a border, etc.

This control is important, since by simply tweaking a few things about the ads it is possible to dramatically increase response and click through rates. In just a few minutes it is possible to make changes that could result in hundreds or thousands more dollars per month in AdSense revenue.

Google also makes it quite easy to track the results of those changes. It is possible to set up custom tracking criteria with the ability to track the results of the changes you make. This tracking is important because as you begin to experiment you will want to know which changes are resulting in more revenue and which ones are not working. Keeping the tweaks that work, and discarding the ones that don’t, is a great way to take your Google earnings to the next level.

Best of all, once you have discovered which tweaks provide the best return for your time, those same tweaks can be repeated across all the web sites and all the web pages you have published. The Google AdSense program does not limit you to only one web site; you can have multiple web sites out there, all focused on different subjects and all hosting different ads. In fact this is the preferred strategy among most web publishers. After all, larger numbers of web sites can greatly increase earnings and exposure while not dramatically increasing costs.
