Online travel revenues for 2005 reached $60 billion, a 20% increase compared to 2004.
Other key findings include:
– Online agencies showed a 19% increase, compared to 2004.
– Supplier sites showed a 21% increase, compared to 2004.
– Supplier sites accounted for 58% of airline ticket sales in 2005, compared to 53% in 2003.
– In the hotel segment, supplier sites accounted for 59% of sales in 2005, compared to 52% in 2003.
– While searching travel sites online, 46% said they visited Expedia, Travelocity or Orbitz first.
– 24% said they started their research at a branded airline, hotel or car rental site.
– 22% said they visited Expedia, Travelocity or Orbitz in search of the lowest price.
– 17% said it is because they expect the sites to deliver the best deal.
– 72% said they start planning for leisure travel eight weeks before the actual trip.
– 28% said they start planning two months ahead of time.
