70% of online shoppers have bought from trusted websites. More than 50% were concerned about buying from an unknown online retailer, a survey by IBM revealed.

The survey also revealed that 37% of Americans do not provide credit card information online.

Stuart McIrvine, director of IBM’s security strategy, said: “As much as consumers have adopted and embraced technology, they are also aware that with advancement and innovation comes the opportunity to abuse the rapid spread of the electronic world.” [Source]

Other key findings were:

“¢ 6% of the respondents believed that they were a victim of cyber crime in the past year.
“¢ Consumers believed that cyber crime is now three times more likely than physical crime
“¢ One out of three Americans were concerned about banking online.
“¢ 43% were concerned about identity theft online.
“¢ 24% were concerned about losing money and 13% were concerned about harm to their credit rating.
