AskJeeves has launched its own proprietary image search technology. The new technology provides an internally-created index of images on the web and zoom related search suggestions for image searches.

Jim Lanzone, senior vice president of search properties at Ask Jeeves, said: “Image search is the second-leading type of search on Ask Jeeves after Web search. The improvements we are introducing today move the needle for searchers where they really need it.” [Source]

The image search technology makes use of AskJeeves’ algorithmic search ranking. It clusters the Web into different topic areas and determines the importance of pages and images among the particular topic community.

According to the press release, image search constitutes 16% of all searches made on AskJeeves.com.

AskJeeves allows users to save the image results on MyJeeves by clicking on the “˜save’ link under each image. MyJeeves is a personal search service where web links, images, and Smart Answers can be stored, searched and shared.
