Microsoft has launched the Microsoft Live Labs and Search Labs. Live Labs is a research partnership between Microsoft Research and MSN. Search Labs will be stationed at Redmond and Silicon Valley and will work with Live Labs.


Microsoft has launched the Microsoft Live Labs. Live Labs is a research partnership between Microsoft Research and MSN.

Live Labs will consist of a group of researchers from MSN and Microsoft Research who will work with researchers across Microsoft and the research community.

Dr. Gary William Flake of Microsoft, who will be leading Live Labs, said: “Live Labs is a fantastic alliance between some of the best engineering and scientific talent in the world. It will be the pre-eminent applied research laboratory for Internet technologies.

Live Labs will focus on Internet-centric applied research programs, like prototyping and launching new technologies, incubating new inventions, and improving Windows Live features.

Ray Ozzie, Craig Mundie and David Vaskevitch will be on the Live Labs Advisory Board.

Microsoft has also launched Search Labs. Search Labs will be stationed at the Microsoft headquarters at Redmond and in the Silicon Valley campus.

Search Labs will work closely with Live Labs. Search Labs will be led by Ashok Chandra, who is the newly appointed General Manager.

Search Labs will focus on areas like personalization, socialization, user experience, and user privacy. The Search Labs teams will also build teams will build data mining technologies, verticals, and parametric capabilities.
