According to a forecast by TNS Media Intelligence, U.S Internet ad spending is expected to increase 9.1% in 2006, compared to 2005.

The forecast also said that the Internet will account for 6% of the overall ad spend for 2006.

Steven J. Fredericks, President and Chief Executive Officer at TNS Media Intelligence, said: “Steady economic growth in 2006 will boost CEO confidence, translating into increased rates of total advertising spending. All leading categories of media will register growth in advertising spending, with Hispanic Network Television, The Internet and Cable Network Television showing the strongest absolute gains.” [Source]

Steven Fredericks also said: “Search is brewing at a much faster rate than display advertising. The display piece of Internet advertising is about six percent of the total share. If you add search it will exceed 10 percent, which is a fairly major milestone.” [Source]

The report also predicted that ad spending will receive a lift due to the winter Olympics and elections.
