93% Europeans Access Internet From Home
93% Europeans have accessed the Internet from home. 47% have accessed Internet from work, 26% from educational institutions and 19% from Internet cafes.
A study by Nielson/NetRatings has revealed that 93% Europeans have accessed the Internet from home.
47% have accessed the Internet from work, 26% from educational institutions and 19% from Internet cafes.
The study also revealed that Hungarian internet users are more likely to access the Internet from home (97%) whereas Greeks are more likely to access the Internet from work (67%).
Alex Burmaster, European Analyst at Nielson/NetRatings, said: “Accessing the web from public locations ““ particularly Internet cafes ““ play a major role in the emerging net markets. Investing in an Internet cafe in Bulgaria, Romania or Latvia where at least a third of the internet population use them is a better bet, for example, than in the UK where only 18% are likely to walk through the door.” [Source]
Additional key findings were:
a) Lithuanians are the most technologically advanced Internet users.
b) Bulgarian Internet users are more likely to access the Internet using laptops (44%) and Latvians are more likely to access the net using Digital TVs (19%).
c) 17% of Internet users in Europe access the web using mobile phones, 5% through Digital TV and 4% use PDA’s and game consoles.
The report also predicted that one in ten online Europeans will make an online purchase in the next six months.
Using an email account will be the top likely internet activity over the next six months (47%). Other top internet activities over the next six months will be using a search engine (37%), reading news online (18%), using a mapping service(15%) and using an online directory to find a service(14%).
Alex Burmaster said: “The figures show the huge potential for e-commerce in 2006 right across Europe, whether it is general purchasing or booking holidays online, and reminds us that successful Internet investment in the future isn’t all about China.” [Source]
