A new spear phishing email is targeting eBay sellers. The phishers direct the account holders to enter their eBay login information and steal their identity.

Greenview Data Inc, the provider of SpamStopsHere email security solutions, has identified a new spear phishing email that targets eBay sellers.

The phishers send forged auction enquires to account holders which appear to be from eBay’s “Question from eBay Member” message portal. Account holders are asked to respond to the message by clicking on the “˜Respond Now’ link button given in the email. Account holders are then directed to a fake eBay login screen. When the sellers enter their login information, phishers access the sellers’ account and steals their identities.

Ted Green, CEO of SpamStopsHere, said, “Just about anyone with an email account has undoubtedly seen an eBay phishing scam email at one time or another. We are seeing an evolution in phishing and spear phishing attacks.

The sophistication of attacks is constantly increasing. Cyber criminals are relentless in developing new and ingenious methods of monetary and identity theft. End user education is the best defense against spear phishing attacks.” http://www.spamstopshere.com/antispam_pressrelease.aspx?nItemID=20&nGroupID=0

Spear phishing attacks are targeted at one end users or organizations, one at a time. They are designed to look like they are sent from genuine and trusted sources and usually ask for login details.
