Google is going to offer paid video download services. Google will allow users to buy television shows or other videos which can be downloaded onto the user’s computer.

The new service is going to be announced at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

“Citing people familiar with the matter, the Wall Street Journal said Google is likely to unveil partnerships related to the new service with CBS Corp. and the National Basketball Association.” [Source]

Google is also going to introduce a software package, called Google Pack. Google Pack will have a single installer using which users can download software such as Adobe Reader, Lavasoft’s Ad-Ware anti-spyware software, RealNetwork’s RealPlayer, Symantec anti-virus software and IM software from Trillan.

The package will also include Google’s search software, Picasa image management application, Google Talk IM and Google mapping software.

Steve Arnold, technology analyst of Arnold IT, said, “Google Pack concept fits neatly into Google’s idea of the Googleplex. You won’t need a CD for your software. You’ll just need a little bit of software on your machine and a lot on the Googleplex.” [Source]
