Sensis, an Australian search engine, has introduced pay-per-call ads in its search site.

Using the pay-per-call service, users can click on the phone icon and make a call to advertisers.

Alex Parsons, Group Mange, Sensis, said, “We are confident that over time advertisers will flock to uptake this new technology given its associated benefits. Leads generated via the telephone allow businesses to talk to prospects one-on-one, explore their needs and establish immediate rapport” [Source]

When a user clicks on the “click-to-call” button next to the advertiser’s listing, a window appears that asks the user to enter their area code and phone number. Users can select whether they want to be called immediately or after a few minutes.

The user receives the call at the selected time and then gets connected to the advertiser. Advertisers are charged only after the call is connected and the minimum time period is reached.

According to the Sensis’ press release, Sensis is the first company in Australia to test the pay-per-call technology.
