Google has made some changes to Google Desktop to prevent hackers from using a flaw in Microsoft Internet Explorer. Google has settled the problem at their end and Microsoft will fix the problem when it releases the next version of IE.


Google has made some changes to Google Desktop to prevent hackers from using a flaw in Microsoft Internet Explorer to lure Google users to a malicious website. Google has settled the problem at their end and Microsoft will fix the problem when it releases the next version of IE.

Google spokesperson Sonya Boralv, said, “We have made an adjustment to the product to help protect users.” [source]

Matan Gillon had discovered the flaw in Microsoft Internet Explorer and reported it on the hacker website. The fully patched Internet Explorer still has a flaw and using that the hacker can lure the people to visit a malicious website. Once they visit the website the hacker can steal their personal information.

Microsoft accepts that there is a flaw in its latest version of IE and says that in future versions of IE it will provide a fix for this problem.

Matan Gillon had provided a proof of concept and has now included an update. He has said, “Update: Following the publication of the exploit, Google patched their sites to prevent the exploitation of this vulnerability. Therefore, the proof of concept no longer works.” [source]
