Google is planning to offer free web analytic tools that can track visitors behavior and preferences. The tool will be useful for web developers, administrators and advertisers to fine-tune their websites.

Google acquired Urchin Web Analytics in March. Urchin was offering web analytical services charging $600 per month before Google acquired it. Later Google offered the service through Urchin for $199. Now Google has made the service completely free.

“Google Analytics gives us an opportunity to invest in our advertisers and everyone else who wants to create quality content on the web. Instead of spending money on web analytics, you can focus on creating targeted, ROI-driven marketing campaigns, and on improving your site design and content.” [source]

The Google Analytics website describes it as “sophisticated, yet easy to use”. It has “enterprise level capabilities” but simple enough for anyone to use and improve their site design.

Those who have an AdWords account can use Google Analytics directly from the AdWords interface. Google Analytics can simplify the process of getting Return on Investment metrics. It automatically provides the metrics without the need for importing cost data or adding tracking information to keywords.
