IBM has announced a free downloadable plug-in that will integrate its search technology with Google Enterprise. The integrated search solution will be useful to retrieve data from the intranet, internet and desktop.

The new free plug-in will make it possible to integrate the features of Google and IBM search tools.

Google Enterprise allows users to search e-mail, files, charts, and cached Web pages that are stored on a local desktop computer. IBM Websphere provides search across databases and other applications.

“The plug-in integrates IBM enterprise intranet search results, provided by WebSphere Information Integrator OmniFind Edition, with Google desktop and internet search results displayed in the familiar Google interface”. [source]

Dave Girouard, general manager, Google Enterprise, said, “Google Desktop for Enterprise helps users navigate the growing sea of information on their PC, including their overflowing inbox, documents, presentations, PDF files, and web pages they’ve visited”. [source]

Jon Prial, vice president, content management and discovery, IBM, said that WebSphere “enables users to search based on concepts and facts, not just keywords, to find the exact information they are looking for across the enterprise. This, coupled with Google Desktop for Enterprise, creates a powerful search combination across the desktop and a variety of enterprise sources”. [source]
