Google will extend its ad-brokering and begin buying and selling television ad time. Traditional media owners are panicking at the speed and scale of changes brought about by the internet.

Google CEO Eric Schmidt agreed that TV ads are “certainly on the list” and said, “We are always considering new ways to extend Google’s advertising program to benefit our users, advertisers and publishers”. [source]

The Internet Advertising Bureau had a conference and Martin Sorrell, WPP Chief Executive, talked about the panic experienced by the media companies and said, “There are major changes and we don’t understand the speed and scale at which they’re taking place. I think there’s a certain amount of panic among media owners”. [source]

Bill Gattes, who spoke at the conference, Engage 2005, said, “the future of advertising is the internet”.
