Yahoo has added blogs to its News Search along with the work of professional journalists. Using Yahoo’s new search feature, it is possible to get a list of relevant blogs for a specific keyword.

This list of blogs are displayed in a box to the right of the results collected from main news sites.

This new search system includes not only news stories and blogs but also user-contributed photos and related Web links.

Yahoo said this new search will help in getting information on breaking news events as it will cover more than what traditional news sites can cover.

Joff Redfern, product director for Yahoo Search said, “Traditional media doesn’t have the time and resources to cover all the stories. It really does add substantially to what you are looking at when you are looking for news.

We do try to demarcate what is mainstream media and what is user-generated content so that there is no confusion there”. [source]

“A blog or weblog is a web-based publication consisting primarily of periodic articles. Blogs range in scope from individual diaries to arms of political campaigns, media programs, and corporations.

They range in scale from the writings of one occasional author (known as a blogger), to the collaboration of a large community of writers.

Many weblogs enable visitors to leave public comments, which can lead to a community of readers centered around the blog; others are non-interactive.” [source]
