The new USB phone, Free.1, allows users to plug into a USB port and then make calls through Skype’s VoIP, without microphone and headset.

Ipevo Inc. develops and sells the Free.1, a phone that users can plug in through the USB (Universal Serial Bus) port and use for Skype VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol).

A company representative said that the first set of new USB phone to be used with Skype’s VoIP, sold out for 27.42 US dollars in just 50 hours in Taiwan. The new USB phone is called Free.1.

The phone is to be plugged in through the USB port. After plugging it in the user can press a red “S” button to launch Skype and start talking through the Internet. The phone rings like a normal home phone, alerting users to incoming calls.

Ipevo was established by PCHome Online. PC Home has partnered with Skype technologies and Ipevo is focused solely on developing Skype based communications products. According to PC Home, Internet phone service has already attracted 2.5 million users.

Vicky Tseng, a representative from PCHome Online says that Ipevo won’t be limited to Taiwan. It intends to sell its wares through the Internet to U.S. consumers from October and eventually it will serve all markets. The company plans to market its first wireless Skype phone in November.
