SBC Communications pressed U.S. communications regulators to rule that it can offer video service over high-speed Internet networks.


SBC Communications, telephone company, told the Federal Communications Commission that it should not have to obtain franchises from thousands of local cities and towns before it can roll out its new Internet protocol (IP) video service.

SBC and other major local telephone carriers are also lobbying the U.S. Congress and state legislatures to make it easier for them to launch video service without potentially getting permission from thousands local authorities.
