Baidu is the search engine used by half of the Chinese, Google is second and Yahoo is fifth.


The China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC) conducted a Survey in August to study the use of search engines in China.

Survey results reveal that Baidu is the search engine used by about 51.5 percent of the people. Google is second with 32.9% and Yahoo is fifth with 3.7%. Google owns a 2.6 percent stake in Baidu.

China has 103 million internet users, that is, 8% of the population. In terms of total Internet users China is second to the U.S. where 69% of the people surf the net.

CNNIC reports that Google had the biggest market share three months ago. Baidu and Google share about 85% of the market and the rest of the market is shared by Yahoo, Sina and Sohu.com.
