(1) Theme –SMILE
(1) Theme – SMILE
“Always keep your SMILE. That's how I explain my long
life.” - Jeanne Calment, French celebrity
In past articles and e-newsletters, I have urged readers to SMILE – even at total strangers. The American musician,
Patti LuPone suggests, “SMILE at a stranger. See what happens.”
What generally happens is that the person you are smiling at breaks into a big SMILE too. And, I do hope, they continue to SMILE at others they encounter during the day.
I chose it as the theme for this issue, because of what happened this week in one of my fitness classes. I always encourage the students to SMILE and I even add bits of humor throughout the class. Not everyone beams broadly, but most at least grin.
A new couple showed up and the man wore a pleasant grin throughout. The woman, however, scowled the whole time. I kept telling myself that it was probably because she was new and concentrating on the newness. I felt badly for her, and do hope to see a glimmer of a grin in the future.
How about you? Are you a SMILER? I am.
“A SMILE is a facelift that's in everyone's price range!” - Tom Wilson, American cartoonist

(3) Creativity – Use Your SMILE Creatively as a Light that Tells What’s Inside
“A SMILE is the light in your window that tells others that there is a caring, sharing person inside.” - Denis Waitley, American writer
Creatives are often immersed in ideas and creative projects so can easily give the impression that they
don’t have the time or energy to give to others. Just as
Denis Waitley states, a SMILE – even when we are talking on the phone - will help others feel that we care.
My advice to all of us – me included – is to slow down, and take the time and effort to SMILE with sincerity. We will be rewarded with returned SMILES and an easy acceptance of our creative ideas and projects. Others will embrace the change and changes we are proposing.
(4) Powerful Presentations – Les Brown Shares How to Have a Positive Countenance
“Your SMILE will give you a positive countenance that will make people feel comfortable around you.” - Les Brown, American businessman
If anyone has a great SMILE and a positive countenance, it is Les Brown. He is much more than a businessman, he is a terrific presenter. If you haven’t heard him speak, do visit your local library and check out some of his tapes. The first time I listened, I laughed and SMILED the whole way through.
Even though he has an important and serious message, Les has the great ability to make his listeners feel comfortable. They not only listen, they take action. I know that I did.
As a presenter, do you have the skill of sharing a beautiful and authentic SMILE? I suggest that you start SMILING at yourself in the mirror. State positive goals, thoughts and visions of your upcoming day. You will be surprised when they start happening all the time.
I guarantee that you will be beaming with a huge SMILE!
