Bill Myers Tip of the Week – March 03, 2007

Saving money when you spend it

One of the first things I learned about money was “it is a lot easier to spend a dollar than it is to make a dollar”.

To actually end up with a spendable dollar, you need to make two or three or even ten dollars (depending on your margins, overhead and tax rate).

For that reason, it pays to find ways to make the dollars you spend go further.

One way to do this, is to take advantage of the special deals that manufacturers offer when either introducing or closing out products – sometimes offering discounts of up to 90%.

For example, I recently needed a 2 Gig SD memory card for my digital camera.

Costco had these in stock for $49 – a pretty good price.

But on a secret ‘deal of the day’ web site, I found the exact same brand and model for just $7 – with free shipping! That’s like finding a 90% off sale!

You can find the same kinds of discounts on many items by visiting sites like:

http://www.dealhack.com – my all around favorite http://www.techbargains – for computer gear http://www.dealcatcher.com – around the home items

With sites like these, it is easy to find 50% to 90% off on the kinds of items you use everyday.

And who doesn’t like saving money?
